A Beachy Blast: Celebrating the Fourth of July in Miramar Beach, Florida – A Road Trip Adventure

As the sun beamed down on the heart of Tennessee, our family was gearing up for an epic Fourth of July adventure. Instead of boarding a plane, we had packed up three SUVs with tents, beach gear, and loads of toys, snacks, coolers, and cold drinks.

Our destination: the picturesque shores of Miramar Beach, Florida. With a promise of clear blue waters and a spectacular fireworks show, our road trip had all the makings of an unforgettable holiday escape.

Although we got a late start that day waiting for everyone to get off work, we decided to go ahead and hit the road and maybe catch a Hotel or a VRBO around Montgomery Alabama as darkness fell.

Day 1: The Great Expedition Begins

With the eight-hour trek down I-65 stretched before us, our spirits were high, and the promise of sandy shores in the Destin area of northern Florida fueled our excitement.

Highway 19E Is the Most Underrated Road Trip

Growing up in the mountains of North Carolina, I lived close to Highway 19E, a stretch of road that begins a short distance north of Asheville and ends in Bluff City, Tennessee. At first glance, 19E is a practical country road. It’s the sort of expanse travel writer William Least Heat-Moon might have called a “blue highway,” one of America’s old back roads marked in blue on the maps and almanacs travelers used before the era of apps. For those who know where to look, the road is like a multipurpose tool. Although it’s little known outside of the region, the 60-mile stretch connects as much natural diversity as any locale in southern Appalachia.

I need to confess that for years I traveled without travel insurance. When one of the people on the 2015 Amateur Traveler trip to Morocco didn’t read the fine print that travel insurance was required… I was that guy. But I have reformed. I now have an annual plan that covers all my travels. The disadvantages of travel insurance are easy. The disadvantages of travel insurance are easy. It costs money. The Patriot Filming Locations to Visit

The 2000 film The Patriot tells of a South Carolinian man named Benjamin Martin that leads an uprising after his son was murdered by a British officer. The plot is loosely based on the life of “The Swamp Fox” Francis Marion, who engaged in guerilla warfare during the Revolutionary War. Mel Gibson starred alongside then-newcomer Heath Ledger, Joely Richardson, Jason Isaacs, and Chris Cooper. All of the filming took place in South Carolina, specifically the Upstate and Lowcountry. The town of Rock Hill served as the production’s headquarters. A private farm in Chester was where the scene depicting the Battle of Cowpens took place, which was a significant defeat in the real-life British campaign. They transformed it into a Colonial village with a church and cabins. The small towns of Fort Lawn and Lowrys were also used.
